Budget 2026 Boosts India’s Construction Equipment Sector

Industry Welcomes Budget 2026
India’s construction equipment industry has responded positively to Budget 2026, highlighting its focus on infrastructure, domestic manufacturing, and advanced machinery. Although the Budget did not offer direct tax incentives, companies expect a steady increase in demand for construction equipment in the coming fiscal year.

Scheme for Enhancement of Construction and Infrastructure Equipment
A key highlight was the announcement of the Scheme for Enhancement of Construction and Infrastructure Equipment (CIE), with an allocation of Rs 200 crore. The scheme aims to boost domestic production of construction equipment and support the adoption of advanced machinery across the country.

JCB India Backs Manufacturing and Rail Expansion
Deepak Shetty, MD & CEO of JCB India, welcomed the Budget, noting its transformative potential. He said, “The focus on scaling up manufacturing across seven strategic sectors and promoting champion MSMEs strengthens India’s domestic capabilities while positioning the country as a global manufacturing hub.”

Shetty emphasized that the push for domestic production of high-value capital goods—including tunnel boring machines, earthmoving equipment, and crane systems—will fuel innovation, elevate India’s global competitiveness, and increase demand for advanced equipment.

Infrastructure and Connectivity Focus
The Budget’s focus on infrastructure, particularly the development of seven high-speed rail corridors, is expected to enhance regional integration, improve urban mobility, and boost productivity. Shetty added that these projects will make India a more attractive destination for global investment.

Financial Reforms to Attract Capital
Complementing the infrastructure push, Budget 2026 includes financial reforms aimed at deepening the corporate bond market, reviewing the Foreign Exchange Management framework, and enabling non-resident investors to participate in equities through the Portfolio Investment Scheme. These measures are expected to create a robust environment for long-term capital flows and enterprise growth.

CASE Construction Highlights Public Spending and Local Production
Shalabh Chaturvedi, MD, India & SAARC, CASE Construction Equipment, highlighted the increase in public capital expenditure to Rs 12.2 lakh crore as a major driver for infrastructure development. He also welcomed the CIE scheme as a step toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat, encouraging domestic production of technologically advanced equipment.

Chaturvedi noted that PM Gati Shakti projects, including City Economic Regions, new freight corridors, and expanded national waterways, will drive demand for excavators, loaders, cranes, and tunnelling machines, while broader policy support will create employment opportunities and strengthen India’s industrial ecosystem.

Construction Sector Outlook
Industry experts predict steady long-term growth for 2026–27, driven by increased infrastructure spending, adoption of locally made machinery, and a clear focus on domestic manufacturing. The Budget’s initiatives are expected to strengthen supply chains, generate jobs, and solidify India’s position as a globally competitive construction hub.
