Volvo Trucks Secures Top Spot in European Heavy-Duty Market for 2025

Volvo Trucks has maintained its position as Europe’s leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer for the second year in a row, highlighting strong market performance and a clear focus on sustainability. In 2025, the Swedish truck maker captured a 19% share of Europe’s heavy-duty segment, up from 17.9% in 2024.

Strong Demand Across Europe

Volvo Trucks’ success was fueled by robust sales in key European markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Poland, and Lithuania. These countries together contributed significantly to the company’s overall market leadership in vehicles with a gross weight of 16 tonnes and above. The data covers the EU30 region, which includes the EU nations, the UK, Norway, and Switzerland.

FH Aero Drives Growth

A key factor behind Volvo’s growth was the FH Aero long-haul truck, which recorded nearly 33,000 orders across Europe in 2025. Designed to replace the standard FH model, the FH Aero offers up to 7% better fuel efficiency thanks to its aerodynamic design and digital camera mirrors.

Fleet operators praised the model for its efficiency, cost savings, and suitability for long-distance transport, making it a top choice for European logistics companies.

Customer Trust and Market Leadership

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, attributed the continued market leadership to customer confidence in the brand. He noted that maintaining the top position reflects Volvo Trucks’ ability to serve as a reliable partner for transport operators across Europe.

Beyond Europe, Volvo Trucks maintains a strong global presence, ranking either first or second in 30 countries. In 2024, the company delivered approximately 134,000 vehicles worldwide, supported by an extensive network of 2,200 service points in nearly 130 countries.

Roadmap to Net-Zero Emissions

Sustainability remains a central focus for Volvo Trucks. The company has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, adopting a three-pillar strategy:

  • Battery-electric trucks for urban and regional transport
  • Fuel cell electric vehicles powered by green hydrogen
  • Combustion engines running on renewable fuels such as biogas, biodiesel, and HVO

Alm highlighted that deploying multiple technologies allows Volvo Trucks to tailor solutions to different market needs while supporting the transition to cleaner transport.

Outlook for 2026 and Beyond

With a combination of strong product offerings, customer trust, and a clear sustainability roadmap, Volvo Trucks is well-positioned to continue its growth in Europe and globally. The company’s focus on fuel-efficient models like the FH Aero, combined with investments in green technologies, ensures that Volvo remains competitive in an evolving transport landscape.

As the logistics and transport industry increasingly shifts toward efficiency and sustainability, Volvo Trucks’ leadership demonstrates the value of innovation, reliability, and forward-looking strategies in maintaining market dominance.
