Volvo-Eicher Launches Automotive Training Centre Hyderabad

VE Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV), operating under the Volvo-Eicher brand, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Regional Competency Development Centre at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering & Technology (VNR VJIET) in Hyderabad. The company has invested ₹5 crore to establish the facility, which will operate for an initial period of 10 years, with the possibility of renewal. The centre is located in the E Block of the VNR VJIET campus and represents a significant step in bridging the gap between industry needs and academic learning.

The facility is designed to provide dual benefits: upskilling VECV employees and dealer personnel from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, while offering hands-on training to students and faculty from the automobile, mechanical, electrical, and electronics engineering departments. The centre is equipped with three diesel vehicles, one electric vehicle, cut-section models of automotive systems, and diagnostic boards, enabling participants to gain practical exposure to real-world commercial vehicle technologies.

Sumit Diwan, National Head – Customer Care at VECV, emphasised that the ₹5 crore investment reflects the company’s commitment to building strong technical capabilities and creating a sustainable talent pipeline. He further highlighted that the company intends to recruit students from VNR VJIET’s automobile engineering department, with a focus on encouraging female participation in its hiring process.

The centre’s curriculum covers both conventional diesel-powered vehicles and emerging electric mobility technologies, ensuring that students and employees gain relevant skills aligned with industry trends. By working directly with vehicles and diagnostic tools, participants will develop practical competencies that extend beyond theoretical knowledge, better preparing them for careers in the commercial vehicle sector.

D. Suresh Babu, President of VNR VJIET, said the collaboration reinforces the institute’s goal of delivering industry-oriented education. He noted that access to advanced automotive systems and hands-on learning opportunities will allow students to understand the technologies currently deployed in commercial vehicle operations, strengthening their readiness for professional roles.

Established in 1995 by the Vignana Jyothi Society, VNR VJIET is an autonomous institution affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. The institute holds NAAC A++ accreditation and offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programs, consistently emphasising practical learning and industry engagement.

The launch of this training centre marks Volvo-Eicher’s commitment to fostering workforce skill development, supporting gender diversity in engineering, and promoting innovation in both traditional and electric vehicle technologies.
