India Sets Guinness Records for Rapid Highway Construction

India has set a new benchmark in highway infrastructure development by achieving two Guinness World Records on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G) in Andhra Pradesh. The record-breaking feat was accomplished on 6 January 2026 along the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta stretch of the six-lane corridor, a project developed under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The landmark execution was carried out by Maharashtra-based Rajpath Infracon Private Limited, which laid an impressive 28.95 kilometres of bituminous road lanes within a continuous 24-hour period. The project consumed 10,675 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete near Puttaparthi in Sathya Sai district, earning official recognition from Guinness World Records.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hailed the achievement as a moment of national pride, attributing the success to the Government of India’s focus on strengthening road infrastructure and the leadership of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. “India builds. Andhra Pradesh delivers,” Naidu said, highlighting the strict adherence to NHAI quality standards, precise engineering, and coordinated on-site execution that made the feat possible.

This accomplishment strengthens Rajpath Infracon’s reputation in high-speed road construction, adding to its credentials as a two-time Guinness World Records holder. The company is continuing work on Packages 2 and 3 of the NH-544G project, with plans to attempt two additional records. These upcoming feats include laying 42.2 kilometres of continuous two-lane bituminous roadway on the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta–Odulapalle section and using at least 36,634 metric tonnes of construction material in a single stretch.

A formal ceremony is scheduled for 12 January in Puttaparthi, where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is expected to present the official Guinness World Record certificates to the project team. The recognition not only underscores India’s growing capabilities in rapid and large-scale road construction but also highlights the strategic importance of highway infrastructure in enhancing regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.

With this achievement, India joins a select group of nations demonstrating world-class efficiency in road construction, showcasing innovation, planning, and execution that could serve as a benchmark for future national and international infrastructure projects.
