Aptiv Secures ADAS Deal for Indian Trucks
Global automotive technology leader Aptiv PLC has announced a landmark partnership with a leading Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer to supply its Generation 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) across future trucks and buses. This marks Aptiv’s first ADAS collaboration with an Indian commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and comes ahead of anticipated 2027 safety regulations in India.
The new regulations are expected to mandate critical safety features, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, blind spot detection, and pedestrian and obstacle detection systems for new commercial vehicles. Aptiv’s Gen 6 ADAS platform is designed to meet these requirements while addressing the unique challenges of Indian roads, including three-wheelers, large animals, and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
The system integrates Generation 8 radar and Generation 7 smart camera technology with STRADVISION’s AI-based vision system, providing enhanced situational awareness. Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Intelligent Systems at Aptiv, highlighted that the platform offers cost-effective, locally tested safety solutions for Indian OEMs. “Our technology, already deployed in millions of vehicles globally, is now tailored to support the diverse conditions of Indian roads,” he said.
The Gen 6 platform will be deployed across 14 commercial vehicle models and more than 30 variants of the unnamed OEM partner, featuring a uni-voltage architecture and modular ADAS software. The system also supports over-the-air updates via Aptiv’s LINC Software Platform and Wind River’s VxWorks real-time operating system, ensuring continuous improvements in safety and functionality.
Commercial vehicles pose unique operational challenges compared to passenger cars, such as larger blind spots, harsh environments, heavy-duty driving cycles, and extended operational hours. Aptiv’s solution addresses these while simplifying system complexity relative to conventional configurations.
This partnership reflects Aptiv’s growing investment in India’s automotive sector, which includes a technical center in Chennai (2025) and an expanded manufacturing facility (2024). Aptiv India employs 2,500 engineers and 13,000 total employees across seven manufacturing sites, four technical centers, and one tooling center nationwide.
Arun Devaraj, Vice President and Managing Director of Intelligent Systems for Aptiv Asia Pacific (Non-China), said, “India’s mobility ecosystem is rapidly evolving, driven by regulatory and consumer expectations. Collaborating closely with OEMs ensures compliance while optimizing performance.”
With this move, Aptiv is set to play a pivotal role in advancing commercial vehicle safety in India, positioning the country for a safer, technologically advanced transportation future.
