Tata Motors Reports Strong Commercial Vehicle Sales Growth
Tata Motors has closed December 2025 on a strong note, reporting robust growth in its commercial vehicle (CV) business. The company sold a total of 42,508 commercial vehicles during the month, registering a 25 percent year-on-year increase compared to 33,875 units sold in December 2024. The performance highlights Tata Motors’ continued leadership in the Indian CV market, supported by consistent domestic demand and a sharp rise in export volumes.
Domestic sales remained the primary growth driver, with Tata Motors selling 40,057 units in India during December 2025. This marked a 24 percent increase over the 32,369 units sold in the same month last year. The growth was broad-based, with multiple segments contributing positively, including heavy trucks, intermediate and light commercial vehicles, passenger carriers, and small commercial vehicles used for cargo and pickup applications.
The Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) segment delivered one of the strongest performances during the month. Sales in this category rose to 12,483 units, up 31 percent from 9,520 units in December 2024. The growth indicates rising activity in infrastructure development, mining, and large-scale logistics, sectors that traditionally drive demand for heavy-duty trucks.
The Intermediate, Light and Medium Commercial Vehicle (ILMCV) segment also recorded impressive growth. Tata Motors sold 7,959 units in this category, reflecting a 40 percent increase from 5,687 units sold a year earlier. The sustained demand for mid-range cargo and distribution vehicles, particularly from e-commerce, FMCG, and regional transport operators, continues to strengthen this segment.
Passenger Carriers showed stable performance during December 2025. Sales stood at 4,167 units, slightly higher than the 4,144 units sold in December 2024, translating into a marginal growth of 1 percent. Demand in this segment remains steady, supported by usage in staff transportation, school buses, and public mobility services.
The Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) Cargo and Pickup segment maintained its momentum, recording sales of 15,448 units. This represented a 19 percent growth over the 13,018 units sold in the same month last year. The segment continues to benefit from rising last-mile delivery requirements and growing adoption by small businesses and independent operators.
Exports emerged as a key highlight for Tata Motors in December 2025. Commercial vehicle exports surged by 63 percent, reaching 2,451 units compared to 1,506 units in December 2024. The sharp increase points to growing acceptance of Tata’s CV portfolio in international markets and the company’s expanding global footprint.
Overall, Tata Motors’ December 2025 performance reflects balanced growth across segments and geographies. With strong domestic volumes and accelerating exports, the company has ended the calendar year on a positive note, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the commercial vehicle space.
