Bajaj Riki launched, Transforming India’s E-Rickshaw Market
In a major push to modernise India’s rapidly expanding last-mile mobility ecosystem, Bajaj Auto Ltd has officially entered the e-rickshaw segment with the launch of its new electric platform, Bajaj Riki. The move marks a significant extension of the company’s decades-long relationship with three-wheeler drivers, under the banner of its trusted promise, “Bharose ki Bhagedaari.”
The electric rickshaw market has been growing at an extraordinary pace since the pandemic, adding more than 45,000 vehicles every month. These vehicles play a key role in connecting passengers to metro stations, bus stops, and suburban rail hubs. Yet, despite massive demand, the segment remains dominated by unorganised players, with widespread complaints of low range, poor durability, unstable chassis design, harsh braking, and inadequate service networks — factors that impact both driver earnings and commuter safety.
Bajaj Auto aims to reset these standards with Riki, built on extensive customer insights, rigorous field testing, and backed by the company’s nationwide network. Riki promises higher uptime, lower maintenance costs, and a more secure and comfortable ride for high-traffic urban routes.
During its pilot phase, Riki was successfully tested across Patna, Moradabad, Guwahati, and Raipur. With the official rollout, Bajaj will now introduce the vehicle across 100+ towns in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Assam in the first phase.

Two Variants, Class-Leading Specifications
The debut model in the company’s new P40 series, the Riki P4005, is designed for passenger applications and runs on a 5.4 kWh battery, delivering a certified 149 km range. It is priced at ₹1,90,890 (ex-showroom).
For cargo operators, Bajaj has launched the Riki C4005, which offers the highest certified range in the segment at 164 km, a larger cargo tray for improved earning potential, and 28% gradability to handle slopes and flyovers with greater ease. This model is priced at ₹2,00,876 (ex-showroom).
Both variants feature first-in-segment engineering enhancements, including:
- Monocoque chassis for structural strength and long vehicle life
- Independent suspension for improved stability and reduced toppling risk
- Hydraulic braking for smoother, safer deceleration
- Fast charging in 4.5 hours
- Three-year battery warranty
Leadership Speaks
Commenting on the launch, Samardeep Subandh, President, Intra-City Business Unit, said the Riki has been engineered to elevate the sector:
“Drivers and passengers need dependable solutions, and Riki brings the best of Bajaj’s three-wheeler engineering into the electric era. From the longest range to a monocoque chassis and hydraulic brakes, every aspect has been designed to boost driver income, improve comfort, and meet the needs of India’s busy last-mile ecosystem.”
With the introduction of Riki, Bajaj Auto — already the world’s largest three-wheeler manufacturer — aims to set a new benchmark in electric urban mobility, strengthening its legacy of engineering leadership built over 75 years.
