Ashok Leyland Enters Qatar Market with FAMCO Partnership

Ashok Leyland has officially entered the Qatari commercial vehicle market, marking a major step in its Middle East expansion strategy. The Indian manufacturer, part of the Hinduja Group, announced its partnership with FAMCO Qatar—an Al-Futtaim Group subsidiary—at a launch event held on November 19, 2025, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

This collaboration represents the company’s second venture with Al-Futtaim in the Gulf region. Ashok Leyland previously joined hands with FAMCO KSA in Saudi Arabia in 2024, a partnership that has since strengthened its footprint across the Middle East. The new Qatar alliance signals the brand’s intent to broaden accessibility and provide region-specific transport solutions backed by a strong local distribution and service ecosystem.

Under the agreement, Ashok Leyland will introduce its entire range of commercial vehicles to customers in Qatar. The lineup includes the Falcon and Oyster buses—both developed with an emphasis on enhanced passenger comfort, safety features, and suitability for urban as well as intercity mobility requirements. Additionally, the company brings its Boss and Partner series of light and medium-duty trucks, catering to the diverse needs of fleet operators, logistics companies, small businesses, and public transport services.

One of the most significant aspects of the launch is the introduction of Ashok Leyland’s electric bus range to the Qatari market. With Qatar accelerating its sustainability and infrastructure development goals, the availability of electric mobility solutions positions the manufacturer as a competitive player supporting the country’s transport transition. The company highlighted that its latest models offer robust build quality, operational efficiency, low maintenance demands, and a competitive total cost of ownership—factors that appeal to commercial buyers seeking long-term value.

Rajesh R., Head of International Operations at Ashok Leyland, stated that the expansion builds on the company’s deepening presence across Middle Eastern markets. He noted that the collaboration with FAMCO Qatar will help deliver reliable support to customers, combining Ashok Leyland’s product capabilities with FAMCO’s established service infrastructure.

FAMCO Qatar will oversee sales, distribution, maintenance, and aftersales services for the brand. As a key entity under the Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment division, FAMCO Qatar is known for supplying commercial vehicles, construction machinery, and industrial solutions across the country. Its service network includes dedicated facilities and a robust parts distribution system, ensuring smooth operations for clients adopting the newly launched vehicles.

With more than 75 years in the commercial vehicle industry, Ashok Leyland continues to strengthen its global footprint. The company’s entry into Qatar reinforces its commitment to serving international markets with a mix of conventional and electric mobility solutions tailored to evolving transportation demands.
