Force Motors Sets Sights on Global Expansion with ₹2,000 Crore Investment Push
Force Motors is preparing for an aggressive expansion into global markets and the defence sector, backed by a ₹2,000 crore capital expenditure plan over the next three years, managing director Prasan Firodia said. With a sharper focus on profitable growth areas and a strengthened domestic position, the company now aims to diversify its global footprint.
Debt-Free and Ready for Global Scale-Up
The Pune-based automaker—well-known for its Traveller and Urbania platforms—has been debt-free for two consecutive quarters. Its new investment plan includes modernising production facilities, enhancing sales infrastructure, and accelerating digitisation initiatives. Around ₹150 crore has been earmarked solely for digital transformation.
Firodia said the company’s strategy remains centred on shared mobility solutions, serving sectors such as education, healthcare, and tourism with its light commercial vehicles and multi-utility platforms.
Eyeing Aggressive Growth in Defence
Force Motors is also stepping up its presence in India’s defence equipment market. The company’s Gurkha-based Light Strike Vehicle is already being supplied to Indian forces, and more defence contracts are being pursued.
“It’s a hardcore off-roader with a strong position in its niche. We see great potential in defence applications and export markets,” Firodia noted, adding that the company does not plan to diversify into the highly competitive passenger car segment.
Export Expansion: New Markets in Latin America & Africa
Force Motors currently exports to about 20 countries, primarily in the Gulf region. To fuel the next growth phase, the company is targeting additional markets in Latin America and Africa.
“With Urbania and Traveller, we are now entering multiple international markets in a structured and calibrated way. This year alone, we will add around five new markets,” Firodia said.
The company is also upgrading its platforms to meet international homologation and legislative standards. While export revenues remain modest today, Firodia expects global markets to eventually contribute 20–30% of total volumes.
EV Ambitions: Traveller Electric Ambulance Ready
As part of its future product roadmap, Force Motors has completed development of the Traveller Electric ambulance. Work is ongoing on an electric version of its Urbania platform.
“The EV transition in this segment is slow, but our products will be ready. As soon as demand picks up, we can scale,” Firodia said.
Financial Performance Hits New High
Force Motors posted its highest-ever second-quarter profit this year—₹350 crore—marking a twofold increase from the previous year. Revenue rose 8% year-on-year to ₹2,106 crore in the July–September quarter.
Firodia attributed the strong financial performance to strategic rationalisation, exit from non-core markets, and significant cost-control measures implemented over the last three to four years.
Building for the Future
With five manufacturing units and over 10,000 employees, the company is focused on capacity expansion, product upgrades, dealership network strengthening, and employee upskilling. As Force Motors prepares to accelerate its international and defence strategies, its ₹2,000 crore war chest is expected to play a crucial role in shaping its next phase of growth.
