Ashok Leyland Sales Up 16% to 17,820 Units in October
Ashok Leyland, one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, posted a strong performance in October 2025 with total sales climbing 16% year-on-year to 17,820 units, including exports. The company had sold 15,310 units in October 2024. The broad-based growth across vehicle categories highlights improving market sentiment and Ashok Leyland’s robust positioning in both domestic and international markets.
Domestic sales lead with double-digit gains
The domestic market accounted for 16,314 units in October, up 16% from 14,067 units a year earlier. The surge was powered by solid performances in both the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments.
In the M&HCV category, sales rose 14% to 9,611 units compared to 8,437 units in the same month last year. The standout performer was the bus segment, which surged 33% year-on-year to 1,639 units from 1,229 units. The sharp uptick reflects growing demand for public transportation and the impact of government-led fleet modernization initiatives. M&HCV truck sales also posted healthy growth of 11%, reaching 7,972 units against 7,208 units a year ago.
The LCV segment continued to perform strongly, with sales rising 19% to 6,703 units in October, up from 5,630 units in 2024. The sustained momentum reflects rising demand from logistics firms, small businesses, and e-commerce platforms driving last-mile delivery networks.
Exports strengthen global footprint
Exports added meaningful volumes to overall sales, with Ashok Leyland shipping 1,506 vehicles in October 2025. The bus category, in particular, showed strong international traction, led by M&HCV bus exports of 969 units. The growth underscores the company’s increasing presence in overseas markets and its success in catering to public transport requirements in developing economies.
Steady growth through the fiscal year
Between April and October 2025, Ashok Leyland sold a total of 1,11,174 vehicles, marking a 6% increase over the 1,04,827 units sold in the same period last year. Domestic sales stood at 1,01,873 units, up 4%, while exports continued to contribute significantly to the overall performance. The M&HCV segment recorded cumulative growth of 6%, with bus exports soaring 21% year-on-year, signaling strong global demand.
Industry outlook
Analysts attribute the company’s performance to multiple tailwinds — improving freight movement, government spending on infrastructure, and increased investment in public transport. The LCV segment’s 19% growth further highlights the expanding logistics ecosystem supporting India’s economic activity.
With balanced growth across trucks, buses, and LCVs, Ashok Leyland enters the final quarter of FY2025–26 on a firm footing. As festive demand and infrastructure projects continue to stimulate the market, the company appears poised to maintain its upward trajectory through the rest of the fiscal year.
