Mahindra Treo Self-Drive Electric Three-Wheelers Launched for Tourists in Sri Lanka
Tourists visiting Sri Lanka now have a new, eco-friendly way to explore the island — by driving themselves in Mahindra Treo electric three-wheelers. Through a strategic partnership between Mahindra’s channel partner Evolution Auto and TukTuk Rental, visitors can now rent and drive Mahindra Treos independently, enjoying greater freedom and convenience during their travels.
The Mahindra Treo, a fully electric three-wheeler, provides a simple, clean, and flexible mobility option for travelers seeking a more personal and sustainable experience. This initiative enables tourists to explore Sri Lanka’s scenic coastlines, cultural landmarks, and city streets at their own pace, without depending on taxis or public transport.
Announcing the initiative, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Sri Lankan tourists can now enjoy the convenience of self-driving Mahindra Treos, thanks to a collaboration with our channel partners, TukTuk Rental and Evolution Auto. It’s a new way to experience the island.”
The launch underscores Mahindra’s growing commitment to green mobility solutions and its focus on expanding the use of electric vehicles beyond India. The self-drive program aligns with the company’s vision of making sustainable transport accessible, affordable, and enjoyable for everyone.
Globally, electric three-wheelers like the Mahindra Treo are gaining popularity for their practicality and low environmental impact. In several European cities, they are being used as short-distance shuttle vehicles, offering an efficient alternative to conventional taxis for urban commuting. These vehicles are not only quieter and cleaner but also significantly cheaper to operate compared to traditional fuel-powered models.
Mahindra also sees immense potential in the Indian and global markets for electric three-wheelers, given their cost-efficiency, compact design, and adaptability for urban and semi-urban use. With innovations like the Treo, Mahindra aims to lead the shift toward small-scale electric mobility, both as a transportation solution and as a key contributor to global carbon reduction goals.
As Sri Lanka embraces the shift toward clean transport, the introduction of self-driving Mahindra Treos could set a new benchmark for sustainable tourism, blending adventure, independence, and environmental consciousness into one unique travel experience.
