BYD Accelerates Europe’s Green Transit Revolution with New Electric Bus Lineup at Busworld 2025

As Busworld Europe 2025 opens its doors in Brussels, Chinese EV giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) is making a commanding statement in the global race toward zero-emission transport. With over a decade of groundwork in Europe, the company is unveiling its most advanced lineup of electric buses yet, featuring innovations in battery technology, vehicle range, and local production — reinforcing its dominance in the continent’s electric mobility transition.

A Decade of Electric Evolution

BYD’s European journey began in 2011, when it made history as one of the first exhibitors to present a fully electric bus at Busworld. Two years later, it delivered Europe’s first public electric bus fleet in the Netherlands, setting a benchmark for sustainable mass transit. Since then, the company’s expansion has been methodical and deeply rooted in local collaboration.

In 2017, BYD established a manufacturing plant in Komárom, Hungary, its first outside China. The facility, now set for a massive capacity expansion to over 1,000 buses annually, serves as the backbone of the company’s European operations. This local manufacturing focus supports faster deliveries, regional customization, and reduced carbon footprint in logistics — a key differentiator in the competitive EV ecosystem.

Milestone Achievements and Market Leadership

In September 2025, BYD celebrated the delivery of its 5,000th electric bus in Europe, a milestone that underscores its market leadership. According to Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, this achievement reflects “our long-term commitment to the European market and our dedication to transforming public transportation through innovation and sustainability.”

The company’s sales performance in the first half of 2025 has been particularly strong, with its market share in the European electric bus segment expanding steadily. Analysts attribute this growth to BYD’s holistic approach — combining energy-efficient vehicles, in-house battery production, and long-term partnerships with European transit operators.

Battery Innovation: From Blade to Solid-State

At the heart of BYD’s success lies its technological independence. The company’s Blade Battery Chassis has redefined electric bus safety and performance. Built with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, the Blade design integrates the battery into the structural frame, improving energy density, crash safety, and handling stability.

The latest BYD B13.b intercity bus, powered by a 560 kWh battery pack, delivers an impressive 700 km range, setting new standards for long-distance electric travel.

Looking ahead, BYD is offering visitors a preview of its solid-state battery technology, marking a potential breakthrough in energy storage. Expected to offer even greater energy density and thermal stability, the solid-state system could eliminate range anxiety — a long-standing hurdle in EV adoption.

Diverse Lineup Tailored for Europe

Busworld 2025 also serves as the stage for several new model unveilings. Among them are the BYD B18.b, a high-capacity articulated bus designed for congested urban routes, and the BYD 12.b HF, a 12-meter high-floor bus suited for varied terrain and intercity routes. Both models highlight BYD’s adaptability to Europe’s diverse transport needs.

Driving the Future of Public Mobility

Beyond vehicles, BYD continues to expand its E-Verse ecosystem, which integrates charging infrastructure, lithium-ion battery technology, and power solutions for zero-downtime operations. With plans to reach 3 billion electric kilometers and serve 20 billion passengers within the next three years, BYD aims to play a pivotal role in Europe’s climate goals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.

At Busworld 2025, BYD isn’t just showcasing products — it’s demonstrating how scale, innovation, and localization can accelerate the future of sustainable public transport across Europe.
