MAN Unveils First Fully Electric Coach and Comprehensive Green Mobility Portfolio at Busworld Europe 2025

MAN Truck & Bus has made a bold statement at Busworld Europe 2025, the world’s largest international bus trade fair, by presenting its most comprehensive portfolio of zero-emission vehicles and sustainable mobility solutions to date. At the heart of its exhibition in Hall 4 is the world premiere of the MAN Lion’s Coach 14 E, the first fully electric coach developed by a major European manufacturer.

A Milestone for Long-Distance Electric Travel

The Lion’s Coach 14 E marks a new chapter for long-distance passenger transport. Drawing on the proven eTruck technology and NMC battery packs from MAN’s Nuremberg plant, the eCoach offers an energy capacity ranging from 320 to 480 kWh, translating to a maximum range of up to 650 kilometres. This makes it one of the most capable electric coaches currently on the market. Despite its advanced technology, the electric coach retains full passenger capacity, seating 63 travellers without reducing luggage space, ensuring no compromises compared to its diesel equivalent.

Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, described the launch as transformative: “With our eCoach, we are entering a new era of emission-free travel. It combines proven components, reliability, and the experience gained from thousands of electric city buses already in service.”

Expanding Electric City Bus Capabilities

In addition to the long-distance debut, MAN also showcased the Lion’s City 12 E LE, representing the 2025 model update of its successful electric city bus range. A major highlight is the introduction of the next-generation MAN BatteryPack, produced in-house at Nuremberg with a planned capacity of up to 50,000 units annually. Offering higher energy density, enhanced safety systems, and greater charging flexibility, the new batteries reinforce MAN’s strategy of scaling electric solutions across urban and intercity transport.

NEOPLAN Highlights: Blending Heritage and Innovation

Premium brand NEOPLAN also commanded attention with two striking premieres. The Skyliner “Auwärter Edition”, a limited special edition, pays homage to NEOPLAN’s heritage with nostalgic design details while incorporating state-of-the-art technology and aerodynamic styling. Alongside it, the NEOPLAN Tourliner C demonstrated performance upgrades with its 480 hp engine, improved drivetrain, and fuel savings of up to 2.5%. Safety also takes centre stage with systems like MAN SafeStop Assist, reinforcing MAN’s focus on combining efficiency with passenger protection.

Hybrid Efficiency for Intercity Routes

Beyond battery-electric solutions, MAN introduced the Lion’s Intercity EfficientHybrid, which incorporates regenerative braking, stored energy support, and start-stop functionality. The technology reduces emissions, cuts fuel consumption, and ensures quieter stops, extending hybrid innovation into the intercity segment.

New Minibus and Holistic Service Ecosystem

The MAN TGE Next Level-based minibus also made its debut, offering ergonomic digital cockpits, multifunction steering wheels, and advanced driver assistance systems. Complementing the vehicle range, MAN is presenting its NEOPLAN eCoach 2040 Future Concept, sustainable material innovations, and an “Innovation Corner” focused on next-generation design.

The company is also promoting its Transport Solutions consulting services and MAN Digital Services, which include fleet management, predictive maintenance, and total cost of ownership (TCO) planning, helping operators transition smoothly to eMobility.

Shaping the Future of Bus Transport

Robert Katzer, Head of Sales & Product Bus, summed up MAN’s approach: “Our customers can expect not only state-of-the-art vehicles but also a complete ecosystem – from batteries and infrastructure consulting to digital tools. With multiple premieres and advanced technologies, MAN is sending a strong signal for the future of sustainable and economical mobility.”

With its expansive showcase at Busworld 2025, including five world and trade fair premieres, new in-house battery technology, hybrid solutions, and exclusive NEOPLAN editions, MAN is positioning itself as a driving force in Europe’s transition to cleaner, smarter, and more efficient passenger transport.
