SIAM Hosts Third Green Plate EV Rally in New Delhi

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) successfully organized its third Green Plate EV Rally at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, showcasing 181 electric vehicles from 18 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The fleet included two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, buses, and trucks. The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, under the theme: “Boosting Customer Confidence in Automotive Electrification”, as part of SIAM’s ongoing विद्युतीकरण (Electrification) initiative.

Event Highlights

  • Flag-off Ceremony: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa graced the occasion. CM Gupta shared Delhi’s ambition to achieve 100% electric vehicle transportation by 2026, emphasizing initiatives to reduce air pollution and strengthen EV infrastructure. She encouraged manufacturers to partner with the government to ensure that one in every three vehicles on Delhi roads is electric in the coming years.
  • Government Support and Policy Focus: Minister Sirsa highlighted the link between sustainable transportation and national development, reflecting PM Narendra Modi’s net-zero vision. SIAM Executive Director Prashant K Banerjee stated that electric vehicles are a critical part of India’s sustainable future, noting that supportive policies and improved infrastructure are driving both consumer adoption and manufacturer investment in EVs.
  • Panel Discussion: The rally featured an interactive panel with senior representatives from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Delhi Police Traffic Division, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, NITI Aayog, and SIAM leadership. Discussions focused on accelerating EV adoption, enhancing charging and service infrastructure, and raising consumer awareness on sustainable mobility.

The rally reinforced India’s commitment to clean transportation, highlighting innovations across vehicle segments and showcasing collaboration between government and industry to reduce emissions, promote sustainability, and make electric mobility a practical choice for citizens.
