Blue Energy Motors Raises $50 Million to Drive India’s Green Trucking Revolution

Mumbai-based Blue Energy Motors (BEM), a leading manufacturer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and electric heavy-duty trucks, has successfully raised $50 million in total funding to expand its green trucking initiatives in India. The latest funding round brought in $30 million from prominent investors Nikhil Kamath and Omnitex Industries, adding to the strategic support already provided by partners Essar and FPT (Iveco Group).

The new capital infusion will allow BEM to fully utilize its annual production capacity of 10,000 trucks and accelerate the development of its LNG and electric vehicle programs. The company positions itself as India’s largest LNG truck manufacturer, having already sold around 1,000 trucks to Fortune 500 companies. These vehicles have collectively traveled over 60 million kilometers, resulting in a reduction of more than 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions—demonstrating tangible benefits for both the environment and industrial operations.

The Indian transportation sector accounts for roughly 15% of the country’s total carbon emissions, making the shift toward cleaner freight solutions a critical component of national sustainability goals. BEM’s dual approach of deploying LNG and electric trucks targets this challenge directly, offering logistics operators commercially viable alternatives to conventional diesel-powered vehicles.

Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, highlighted that the funding will accelerate India’s transition toward sustainable freight mobility. “Our focus is on delivering practical, scalable solutions that reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency for logistics operators across the country,” he said.

Investors also expressed confidence in BEM’s strategy. Nikhil Kamath emphasized the importance of adopting scalable clean technologies in the logistics sector, while Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting India’s green mobility transformation through continued investment in BEM.

The funding arrives at a time when India is aggressively promoting clean energy alternatives across multiple industries. Freight transportation, being a major contributor to carbon emissions, is a key focus for decarbonization efforts. Blue Energy Motors’ expansion underscores the growing demand for sustainable heavy-duty vehicles and demonstrates the country’s potential to lead in green trucking technology.

With this strengthened financial backing, BEM is poised to unlock full production capacity, broaden its LNG and electric truck portfolio, and play a pivotal role in reducing the environmental footprint of India’s logistics sector.
