Tata Motors Unveils LPT 812: A 5-Tonne Payload Truck with AC in the ILMCV Segment

Tata Motors has expanded its commercial vehicle portfolio with the launch of the LPT 812, a 5-tonne payload truck aimed at the Intermediate, Light and Medium Commercial Vehicle (ILMCV) segment. Introduced on September 3, 2025, the new model is positioned as India’s first 4-tyre truck fitted with factory-installed air conditioning, a move expected to redefine comfort and productivity in the urban haulage market.

Bridging the Gap in Payload Efficiency

The LPT 812 has been designed for businesses that require the capacity of a 6-tyre truck but the operating agility of a 4-tyre configuration. With the rapid growth of urban logistics and last-mile delivery, Tata Motors is pitching the new model as a solution that balances high payload with maneuverability in congested city environments.

Technical Details

At its core, the truck runs on a 4SPCR diesel engine generating 125 hp and 360 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed transmission. The setup features a booster-assisted clutch that minimizes driver fatigue during long operating hours.

To ensure stability and safety under full load, the truck has parabolic front suspension with anti-roll bar, full S-Cam air brakes, and heavy-duty radial tyres. The addition of tilt-telescopic power steering further enhances drivability.

Buyers can choose from multiple load body configurations suitable for industrial cargo, market goods, perishable commodities, courier logistics, and other applications. The vehicle builds on Tata Motors’ trusted LPT platform.

Customer-Centric Value Proposition

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors CV, said the LPT 812 would set “a new benchmark in customer profitability.” He highlighted that the truck was engineered for fuel efficiency, ease of operation, and maximum uptime, ensuring better long-term returns for fleet operators.

The ILMCV space, a crucial part of India’s CV market, is witnessing rising demand for trucks that combine payload capacity with cost efficiency. The LPT 812 directly addresses this trend, offering operators a practical solution for urban delivery challenges.

After-Sales and Support Ecosystem

The LPT 812 comes with a 3-year/300,000 km warranty and access to 3,200+ service touchpoints across India. Tata Motors also supports customers through its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 lifecycle program and Fleet Edge digital platform, enabling fleet owners to track performance and optimize efficiency.

Strengthening Tata’s Market Leadership

Tata Motors already leads India’s commercial vehicle sector, producing trucks in the 4–19 tonne GVW range for the ILMCV category. The new launch aligns with the company’s strategy to design segment-specific solutions that address evolving logistics requirements.

As urban freight movement accelerates, the LPT 812 is expected to play a key role in helping businesses meet growing delivery demands while keeping operating costs under control.
